The Shopping Dead

The Shopping Dead is a theatrical play designed specifically for WhatsApp. With theatres closed and the world confined to their houses, Faye Kabali-Kagwa sought to produce a theatrical project takes place where many people are most active – their phones. Blue Ticked is a theatrical project that utilises WhatsApp as its main stage. The audience act as vouyeurs as narratives unfold before their eyes over the course of 45 minutes. Rather than employ physical bodies these plays allow for the virtual world to be brought to life as text, voice notes, GIFS, memes, and pictures. Together with a young, black, womxn team The Shopping Dead aims to be the first in a range of WhatsApp theatre productions that are accessible for both audience and theatremaker.
